Adrian Sîrbu
Artistic Director
Adrian Sîrbu was born in Iași. He graduated the Orthodox Seminary “Sfântul Vasile cel Mare” (where he studied Psaltic music under the supervision of Assoc. prof. Florin Bucescu), graduated the ”Dumitru Stăniloae” Faculty of Orthodox Theology and completed a Master’s programe “Christian Philosophy and Cultural Dialogue”of the Faculty of Philosophy of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi.
He also graduated the Faculty of Composition, Musicology, Music Pedagogy and Theatre from the University of Arts „George Enescu” of Iași, Musical Pedagogy department.
He graduated the National Conservatory of Athens (under the supervision of prof. Lykourgos Angelopoulos) and completed the Master’s program within the same Conservatory (under the supervision of prof. dr. Georgios Konstantinou). He graduated the School of Psaltic Music “Izvorul tămăduirii” of Athens (under the supervision of prof. Konstas Angelidis). He developed project of musical research with professors of Gregorian chant of the Music School of Echternach (Luxembourg).
He is the founder and the conductor of the ”Byzantion” Psaltic Choir (since 1997), with which he participated in numerous festivals in Europa and released 12 audio albums. He was conductor of the ”Nicolaus” mixed choir (2005-2012) with which he released 2 carol albums. He was member of the Greek Byzantine Choir from Athens and beginning with 2010, he has been member of the ”Graindelavoix” Ensemble from Anvers (Belgium) with which he took part in numerous masterclass courses, research and performing projects related to the medieval music. He was member/associate of the Iași „Moldova” Philharmonic Chorus, of ”Cantores Amicitiae” Ensemble and ”Mira”Ensemble.
Since 2008, he has been artistic director of the International Masterclass of Byzantine Chant from Iași, president of ”Byzantion” Cultural Association and graduate assistant within the department of Sacred Music of The Faculty of Composition, Musicology, Music Pedagogy and Theatre, the University of Arts ”George Enescu” of Iași.
Since 2017, he has been artistic director of the Iași Byzantine Music Festival. He is also PhD student in Byzantine music, at the ”Aristotle” University of Thessaloniki, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Maria Alexandru.
