“Chivotul” Choir of the Psaltes of the Metropolitan Cathedral in Iași

The Chivotul Choir of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Iasi was founded upon the initiative of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, the then Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bucovina, and was made up of theological students who were chanting during services in the analogion of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Iasi.

Today, with the blessing of His Eminence Theophan, Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bucovina, the choir counts 10 employed members, chanters by vocation, who are given the opportunity to experience chanting in the cathedral’s analogion.
Under the protection of Pious Saint Paraskeva, and under the guidance of the Most Reverend Father Dosoftei Șcheul, Great Ecclesiarch of the Cathedral and of Archdeacon Ciprian Rusu, Chivotul Choir chants daily during the regular services of the Metropolitan Cathedral’s liturgical program: the Midnight Service, Matins, the Holy Liturgy, Vespers, Pious Paraskeva’s Akathist hymn and Paraclesis.
Archdeacon Ciprian Rusu
The conductor of the Chivotul choir, Archdeacon Ciprian Rusu, is a member of the ministering clergy of the Metropolitan Cathedral in Iasi. He was ordained deacon by His Eminence Theophan, Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bucovina, in 2013.
He graduated from the Theological Seminary of Neamt Monastery, "Dumitru Stăniloae" Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Iasi and the George Enescu Conservatory in Iasi, specializing in Academic Choir Conducting. He is one of the first members of the Chivotul Choir and is currently involved in organizing and guiding choir members, actively participating in analogion chanting and coordinating choir projects.
