His Eminence, Teofan, graduated the Theological Institute from Bucharest in 1984 and in 1990, he received his PhD in Theology at the Theological Institute ”Saint Serge”, defending the thesis: ”The Divine and Human Natures of Jesus Christ and the Deification of the Human Being in the Works of Saint Maximus the Confessor”.
In July 1985, he became a monk at the Skete of Crasna, Monastery of Sinaia, Prahova county. On the 22nd of October, 2000 he was ordained as Archbishop of Craiova and Metropolitan Bishop of Oltenia.
While fulfilling the mission of Archbishop of Craiova and Metropolitan Bishop of Oltenia, His Eminence is also assigned by the Holy Council with the role of President of the Canonical, Judicial and Disciplinary Commission of the Holy Council. He was appointed as the Locum Tenens of the Orthodox Romanian Archdiocese of America and Canada, Locum-Tenens of the Diocese of Severin and Strehaia and Locum-Tenens of the Diocese of Slatina.
On the 5th of March 2008, the Holy Council of the Orthodox Romanian Church elected His Eminence Teofan, Archbishop of Craiova and Metropolitan Bishop of Oltenia as Metropolitan Bishop of Moldavia and Bukovina. He was ordained as Archbishop of Iași and Metropolitan Bishop of Moldavia and Bukovina on the 8th of June 2008.
