Ioannis Chasanidis

Ioannis Chasanidis is protopsaltes of Saint Theodora Monastery in Thessaloniki. 

Ioannis Hasanidis was born in Larisa, in 1958. He graduated the Athonias Ecclesiastical Academy from Mount Athos, where he learned music under the supervision of the professors: father Melethios Sikotis, father Dionysios Firfiris and His Eminence Chrysostom, bishop of Rostodolos.

He pursued his musical studies as a scholar at the National Conservatoire of Athens. He studied within the School of Pedagogical Education in Thesaloniki and he is the owner of a B.A. thesis at the Pedagogical Department within the Aristotle University. Under the supervision of professor Dimitrios Sourlantzis, he graduated the Macedonian Conservatoire of Thessaloniki.

For thirty years, Ioannis Hasanidis has been a teacher and founded children choirs, which took part in different events and festivals. He taught Byzantine music to students and within monasteries of nuns or monks. He was awarded by the Ministry of Education, Kordelio, Stavroupolis and Saint Paul – Thessaloniki Municipalities for his entire didactic activity.

Ioannis Hasanidis is protopsaltes of Saint Theodora Monastery in Thessaloniki. He is a founder member of the Byzantine Music Choir, together with professor Lykourgos Angelopoulos.

He is the author of a rich musical work, many CDs being released under his supervision.
