Panagiotis Neochoritis

He is archon protopsaltis of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.
Panagiotis Neochoritis was born in 1971, in Kavala (Greece). He is the son of the priest Charalambos Neochoritis, who was also his first music teacher. He continued his training in music under the supervision of Mathaios Tsamkiranis and later, in Thessaloniki, under the supervision of Eleftherios Georgiadis (former archon lampadarios of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople and protopsaltis of „Saint Therapondos” Church in Thessaloniki).
He was psaltis at many churches in the north of Greece, among which „Saint Nicholas Kavala” Church (1196-2000), Metropolitan Cathedral of Holy Protection of the Theotokos in Edessa and since 2000 he has been protopsaltis of the Saint George Metropolitan Cathedral in Neapolis, Thessaloniki. At the moment, he is archon protopsaltis of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.
In 1996, he founded „Saint Romanos the Melodist” Cultural Association in Thessaloniki whose president he has been and in which he has been carrying on a remarkable work. He is performer and researcher in the field of traditional folk music from Constantinople and Thessaloniki.
His first discographic release was within the series „Σύμμεικτα Εκκλησιαστικής Μουσικής” (albums 9 and 10) where he performed numerous plays with a historical value.
Panagiotis Neochoritis is one of the most authentic psaltis of the new generation, with a rich and strong vocal timbre, endowed with vocal aptitudes and vast knowledge of Byzantine music history.
