“Sf. M. Mc. Chiriachi” Psaltic Group

The “Sfânta Mare Muceniță Chiriachi” Psaltic Group of the Episcopal Cathedral of Huși was founded in February 2018, with the blessing of His Eminence Ignatie, Bishop of Huși.
It is made up of students of the Faculty of Theology of Iasi, of the “George Enescu” Conservatory, of ministers of the Holy Altar, as well as of students of the “Sf. Ioan Gură de Aur” Orthodox Theological Seminary of Huși.
During this time, the members of the group have carried out their activity by joyfully responding to invitations to feasts and archiepiscopal services in the Diocese of Huși, but also in other places in Romania and abroad. Part of the group chants weekly during the services in the “Sf. Ap. Petru și Pavel” Episcopal Cathedral in Huși.
Out of the desire to support psaltic music and to lend it longevity, the “Sf. Mare Muceniță Chiriachi” Psaltic Group of the Episcopal Cathedral of Huși contributes to the cultural life of Vaslui County by holding various thematic concerts, and by manning the analogia of the Episcopate’s parish churches and monasteries of the with singers, when needed.
In 2022, the “Sf. M. Mc. Chiriachi” Psaltic Group of the Episcopal Cathedral of Huși won the second prize in the psaltic music competition organized by Iași Byzantine Music Festival. The choir also participated in the second edition of the event “Days of Romanian Psalts”, organized by the Byzantion Cultural Association. At the same time, the choir won the second prize in the “Hajnowka” Festival Competition held in Bialystok, Poland. International experience was also gained by supporting liturgical and cultural activities in Italy, Austria and the Republic of Moldova.
In 2023, the “Sf. M. Mc. Chiriachi” Psaltic Group of the Episcopal Cathedral of Huși celebrated its five years of activity by organizing the National Symposium “Psaltic Theaurus in the Diocese of Hușilor”. The musical album “The Psaltic Treasure in the Episcopate of Huși” was launched, containing chants by Huși composers from the 19th and the 20th century, most of which are in manuscripts.
From among the annual activities of the group, we can mention the Psaltic Music Camp at Bujoreni Monastery, now in its third edition, which aims to bring together renowned psaltes to teach courses in psaltic music to students of the “Sf. Ioan Gură de Aur” Orthodox Theological Seminary in Huși, to members of the “Sf. M. Mc. Chiriachi” psaltic group, as well as to children eager to learn church music. Other activities involve rehearsals, services and concerts of the “Sf. M. Mc. Chiriachi” Junior Psaltic Group.
At present, the group is consists of twenty-five members, under the direction of Archdeacon Cosmin-Vlăduț Mironescu.
