“Holy Hierarch Iosif Naniescu” Male Choir of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of Iași

The Male Choir of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Iasi was founded in 2008, receiving, in April 2009, the name of Holy Hierarch Iosif Naniescu, with the blessing of His Eminence Teofan, Archbishop of Iasi and Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bukovina. Holy Hierarch Iosif cel Milostiv (Joseph the Merciful) was himself a great performer and composer of psaltic music, as well as a supporter of the harmonic-polyphonic music of that period.
Choral experience:
- Participation in concerts of church music organized by the Metropolitanate of Moldavia and Bukovina, the Iasi Byzantine Music Festival, the Center for Byzantine Studies in Iasi; in cultural events initiated by the County Council of Iasi, the Municipality of Iasi, various associations such as ASCOR Iasi, the League of USAMV Students Iasi, ASFI, ASALT, ”Blue smile”, ”Love and Trust” etc., as well as in Doctor Honoris Causa award ceremonies, organized by ”Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași;
- Concerts at the end of the academic year, carol concerts and various cultural events organized by the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of Iași;
- participation in the Holy Liturgy in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Iasi;
- recording and editing CDs of church music;
- winning several prizes in music competitions in Romania and abroad.
